Job Announcement: Executive Officer

The European Forum of LGBTI+ Christian Groups is looking for an EXECUTIVE OFFICER (part time; remote)

The European Forum of LGBTI+ Christian Groups is an ecumenical association of LGBTI+ Christian groups in Europe. It aims to achieve equality and inclusion for LGBTI+ people within and through Christian churches and other religious bodies and multilateral organisations. With over 40 member groups from more than 20 countries in Europe, the European Forum works for freedom of religion for LGBTI+ people, for human rights, for the dignity of LGBTI+ people and for an affirmative discourse on human sexuality.

The European Forum of LGBTI+ Christian Groups is increasingly acknowledged and appreciated as the organisation that raises the voice of queer people of faith in political and religious spaces. Thanks to the support of international donors, we are once again able to expand our operations; we will make new iterations of our successful research and capacity-building projects from the past, as well as launch new advocacy and alliance-building initiatives, all to strategically counter the efforts of the anti-gender forces in European religious institutions and societies.

For that purpose, we are looking for an experienced and passionate person to work as our Executive Officer, coordinating the project work and everyday activities of the European Forum, in liaison with its Board, Working Groups and membership.

The successful candidate we are looking for will:

  • have experience in project administration, event management, etc.;
  • have good organisational skills;
  • be able to manage the organisation’s funds and budgets;
  • be able to generate narrative/activities reports;
  • have good networking and interpersonal skills;
  • have intercultural sensitivity;
  • have experience of working in a voluntary work environment;
  • have sound knowledge in the field of LGBTI+ human rights, especially in challenging contexts, with an understanding of intersectionality issues;
  • knowledgeable of the situation of LGBTI+ people of faith in Europe;
  • have a solid understanding of the general religious landscape in Europe;
  • be committed to ecumenical principles (as opposed to prioritising one particular church in their work);
  • be sympathetic to the aims of the European Forum;
  • be able to communicate well in both written and spoken English;
  • have experience of working under their own initiative to strict deadlines;
  • be aware of the confidentiality requirements of the work.

Additional qualities and experience that would be an advantage:

  • experience in advocacy within the frame of international institutions, national NGOs or church advocacy;
  • experience in project development and budgeting;
  • experience in communications and publicity;
  • knowledge of other European languages.

Tasks of the Executive Officer will include:

  • coordinating and managing the project work of the European Forum (examples include but are not limited to: the mentoring programme, the advocacy activities related to the Synod of the Roman Catholic Church, the international consultation on countering anti-gender forces, etc.);
  • liaising with other specialists contracted by the European Forum currently or in the future (e.g. the research officer working on the Rainbow Index of Churches in Europe);
  • assisting the Board and supporting the Working Groups of the European Forum in their everyday operations;
  • representing the European Forum in European institutions and organisations (together with the Board);
  • supporting the fundraising activities of the Board;
  • communicating with the membership of the European Forum and the wider community and partners.

The European Forum facilitates a welcoming, international and dynamic working environment and offers a contract for the duration of 20 months (May 2024 – December 2025, with possible extension subject to the availability of funds), ca. 27,5 hrs per week, with a monthly contract fee of 2750 EUR (gross, with the contracted person responsible for taxes and social security payments in their country of residence). We expect the Executive Officer to operate remotely and be ready to travel to various events during the contract duration at the expense of the European Forum (e.g. the annual conference of the European Forum on 9-13 May 2024; offline board meetings; etc.).
